I am a huge fan of The Walking Dead. I am also very excited about Colony, a new series on USA Network. The show officially premieres on January 14th, but the show is making the pilot available early for fans. Learn more here.
Having watched the pilot already myself, I have compiled a list of reasons other fans of The Walking Dead should also give Colony a try.
- The Walking Dead is on hiatus. Fans need something to fill that void. The 1/14/16 premiere of Colony is perfect timing.
- Former cast member of The Walking Dead, Sarah Wayne Callies, stars in Colony. As you know, Sarah Wayne Callies played Lori Grimes on The Walking Dead. Interestingly, she is again playing a mom under the pressures of dire circumstances, but definitely not the same way she played Lori.
- Speaking of dire circumstances, the citizens of Los Angeles are under a state of occupation. Their world has changed drastically. Much like The Walking Dead, old rules no longer apply.
- U.S. currency is no longer worth more than kindling. The Colonists receive rations and have taken to a system of bartering to obtain other items. The survivors in The Walking Dead are not shopping with Benjamins either.
- Danger lurks. Walkers as well as other humans are ongoing threats in The Walking Dead. Most Colonists live in fear of the Transitional Authority, a somewhat mysterious governing body serving the even more mysterious “hosts”. There is also the threat of being sent to an ominous place called the “factory”.
- The brave fight against the evil. While some survivors in The Walking Dead selfishly choose to only look after themselves, there are those like Rick Grimes who risk their lives to protect others. In the newly occupied Los Angeles we learn of a group called “The Resistance” that refuses to take the occupation lying down.
- It is not safe to go out after dark. In The Walking Dead, darkness increases your vulnerability to walkers. In Colony, there is a curfew that is enforced. The threat of punishment for those found outside their homes after curfew is taken very seriously.
- There are very hard choices to be made. The Colonists are challenged with choosing to collaborate or resist. Your loyalties can impact the safety and well-being of your family. The Walking Dead survivors are also challenged with not knowing who they can trust and how new alliances could impact their loved ones.
- Action, action, action. By far, neither show is a snooze fest.
So, what do you think? Are you a fan of The Walking Dead? Do you see some common themes with Colony that interest you? Check it out and let me know!
